MEETING FUNDS AND PROPERTY

A TREASURER should be appointed by the Yearly Meeting to be in charge of funds belonging to the Meeting. The Treasurer is to pay out of the funds such amounts as directed by the Yearly Meeting, or when Yearly Meeting is not in session by the Interim Meeting.

Those appointed by the Quarterly Meetings as representatives to the Yearly Meeting are to examine the Treasurer's accounts each year, and recommend a Friend to be appointed Treasurer the follow-ing year. They are also to nominate Friends to serve as Clerks of the Yearly Meeting for the year.

The Monthly Meetings are expected to contribute to the funds of the Yearly Meeting in amounts determined by the Yearly Meeting to be equitable, such amounts to be reconsidered from time to time as need is recognized for change.

Each Monthly Meeting should maintain a similar fund of its own, to defray expenses arising from various actions. Meetings are en-couraged to pay expenses of persons acting for the Meeting, and of those approved by the Meeting to engage in religious work.

PROPERTY

Titles to Meeting Houses and other real property should be exam-ined from time to time, and efforts made to remove any obstacle to perfect title. If any Monthly Meeting ceases to exist, its property should be transferred to the Meeting receiving its remaining membership. If such action is not practicable, the Quarterly Meeting of which the Meeting is a member is to decide the disposition of its property.

When a Quarterly Meeting ceases to exist, its property should be similarly assigned to the Meeting receiving its remaining member-ship. Any question of doubt should be decided by the Yearly Meet-ing.

NO FUND, OR PROPERTY BELONGING TO A MEETING, IS TO BE DISTRIBUTED AMONG MEMBERS.

Trustees should be appointed by Monthly Meetings and the Yearly Meeting to have charge of their legal business. Meetings having charge of charitable gifts are to be careful to use such gifts strictly for the purpose designated by the donor. In case such purposes become obsolete, very difficult, or impossible to ful-fill, the advice of the Interim Meeting should be requested.

PROPERTY OF INDIVIDUALS

Friends should regard property as a trust or stewardship, to be used to promote the welfare of others, rather than the selfish interest of the holder of the property. George Fox was among the first to become greatly concerned about applying Christian practices to trade and business.

Friends should make their wills under professional advice and as far as possible while they have good health and sound judgment, and thus avoid some of the causes for a will to be set aside.

RELIEF

Monthly Meetings should designate a committee, either appointed for this purpose or combined with other duty, to give help to those friends who are in need. Help should be offered both in finding employment and ,if required, in financial aid from the Meetingšs treasury.

SCATTERGOOD SCHOOL

Scattergood School, owned by the Yearly Meeting, is a co-educational boarding high school located near West Branch, Iowa. Communication with the students about the values of Friends is an important part of the educational process. The school committee, appointed by the Yearly Meeting, works with staff and students, oversees the operations, and determines its policies. The school makes possible cooperative work, play and study and worship experiences for students and staff alike. The educational standards have met college requirements. A report of school activities is made each year at Yearly Meeting.
