Bible Study Format
Everyone interested in reflecting on how the Bible applies to our daily lives and our Quaker values is encouraged to come to Friendly Bible Study.
Using the Friendly Bible Study method developed for Quakers by Joanne and Larry Spears, we will be focusing this year on the Psalms. We will reflect on one short Psalm per meeting.
The Psalms contain personal and frank expressions of human experiences that have made them favorite Scriptures for individual prayer and community worship. There is a Psalm to match every situation or emotion -- joy, longing, anxiety, sorrow -- and help us put them in the context of our relationship with God.
Friendly Bible Study was created by the Spears to embody the Quaker values of personal insight and group interaction into a Bible study. Each Friend contemplates the following questions and shares their responses with the rest of the group:
- What is the author's main point?
- What new light do I find in the passage?
- Is this passage true to my experience?
- What are the implications of this passage for my life?
- What problems do I have with this passage?
We will have Bibles and notebooks for you to use if you don't have any available to you.
