Meeting for Worship With Attention to Business
Third
Month, Sixth Day
Vera Elleson, Clerk; Karin McAdams,
Recording Clerk; Jessica Rettig, reader. Eleven members
and attenders were present.
Treasurer Kent Luetke-Stahlman
reported an income of $545 for February. A bill for the last four
years of our monthly meeting's announcement in the Friend's
Journal was received and paid. One fourth of our payment to
our building fund was made. One half of our yearly payment
to Iowa Yearly Meeting was also paid. Penn Valley still owes
$1,400 to IYM and $1,350 to our yearly donations to support
Quaker groups. The treasurer asked if we should cash in our
stock, currently valued at $1,757.50, and after spirited discus-
sion, persons present empowered the Finance Committee
and Treasurer to sell 100 shares of Clarcor at their discretion.
From the report of Ministry & Oversight. . .The difference
between conveners and clerks (conveners call the first meet-
ing and then a clerk is selected) suggests that the term "clerk"
should be used in all committees. Be reminded that copies of
the minutes of the Monthly Meeting for Worship with Attention
to Business are available at the meetinghouse. From the
House Upkeep Committee. . .after more spirited discus-
sion, the sense was that the committee proceed with their
recommendations for the purchase of plastic mats for the
AFSC office, repair of cracked windows, an environmentally
friendly protective coating for the back porch and a seeking
of estimates for two other repairs. From the Peace & Social
Concerns Committee...We welcomed and approved with
gratitude their two requests: that the committee help facili-
tate and provide short term coordination for the KC Star's
inclusion of non-Christian sacred texts in the daily Opinion
pages, and that this committee work with the Program
Committee to arrange activities and service opportunities for
Friends. Because of Midyear Meeting, the next Meeting for
Worship with Attention to Business will be held April 9.
