Meeting for Worship With Attention to Business
Sixth Month, Fourth Day
Vera Elleson, Clerk and Ginger Kenney, Recording Clerk.. .16 members and attenders were present.
From Faith and Practice, New England Yearly Meeting. . .
Do you attend your Meeting for Business in a spirit of love and understanding, seeking a right course of action
through a patient search for unity? Do you recognize that this search may require you to accept with good grace a decision
of the Meeting with which you are not entirely in agreement?
Treasurer's Report, Kent Luetke-StahIman. . .Received into the Operational Fund, $1,495; dispersed, the usual monthly
bills plus the last $200 to IYM and 40% of the annual payment to the building fund ($800). A payment of $667 from the
Property Reserves paid for the new kitchen floor covering. . We now have $303 available in the VOPS fund.
Ministry & Oversight Committee, Sheila Shinn. . .Regarding Meeting for business, most Friends felt that the meeting
went fine without a reader, preferring the more personal touch of having different people read the reports. It will still be more
convenient if Friends can submit a copy of their reports to Vera before the meeting. If sending them by email, please get them
to her by 4:00 pm on Friday. Since Genia Simmons is completing her term on the IYM Ministry & Oversight Committee,
Nancy Moon offered to hold that position forthe forthcom-ingthreeyears. For the present, Friends are asked to sign up to take
care of babies during Meeting for business and Query. To help ensure that all volunteer tasks are being done, it was suggested
that the person breaking meeting read off the upcoming volunteers, as a reminder, and as right then for people to fill the
next week's positions that have not been taken. Peace & Social Concerns. . .Regarding the environment, we charged
the committee to follow through with its suggestion about offering recycling on a trial period with several suggestions for its
workability. The Meeting responded to the committee query regarding volunteer opportunities by suggesting that these be
posted or distributed at the Meetinghouse. If you have a Green Party petition, please return to Amy or David. Work continues
on the KC Star project with Amy Zeh Rommel and Samuel Morehouse spearheading it. We expressed great appreciation for
the work of this active committee. We heard John Griffith give the report of the Audit Committee, and we approved.
House Upkeep Committee asked that we approve a termite inspection, and we did so. This group of Friends
continues with the repairs and spruce-up of the meetinghouse. Lee Morehouse, who will be clerk of the Program Committee
for the summer months, gave that committee's report—see program calendar. In other business, the Scattergood School
Committee is requesting nominations for more members. This committee meets about 6 times a year at the Schoo (Donnie
serves on this and can answer questions). If you are Interested In having your name put In for consideration, notify Vera.
The discussion concerning the future format of Meetings For Worship with Attention to Business. . .Some points
made included: An appreciation for the silence, the time for worship, the improved reports, the improved opportunities to stand,
speak and be heard, the greater clarification of issues, and the reduction of stress for those taking notes. Special note was
made concerning our appreciation for the grace and sensitivity the clerks have shown in meeting the great challenge with
which we have charged them. The meeting accepted an official minute to this effect, and the process we have been using will
continue with attention made to continue incorporating a degree of lightheartedness. Special Note: The July 2 meeting
will be clerked by Kevin Chafin. Please give copies of your reports or items for business to him prior to the meeting.
