MEETING FOR WORSHIP WITH ATTENTION TO BUSINESS, Seventh month, Second day;
with Marc
Robinson, acting clerk
The meeting opened with
silence.
Ministry and Oversight is
working on a state-of-themeeting
report, which
should be ready for Iowa
Yearly Meeting soon. Terry
Matz’s clearness
committee, for her
application for
membership, will meet this
week. AFSC wants to put
on a fund-raising brunch at
the Meeting house; this
needs a First Day before
September. Ministry and
Oversight will consult with
the program committee to
find a date; the brunch will
be during the hour for
program.
The treasurer’s report
was heard and accepted.
Again, Friends are
encourage to contribute, as
some large payments will
be due soon.
House upkeep reports that
the cleanup day was a
success. Burned-out light
bulbs have been replaced,
too, so the Meeting is more
in the light. AFSC needs
shelves for the basement.
The key to the elevator is
not in its usual place; Jim
will try to find it. The
report was accepted.
Quaker Education plans a
program on the peace
testimony. The program
may lead to a Peace and
Social Concerns meeting
about current issues of
peace and war; the place,
time, and content of this
program is not yet clear.
The committee report was
accepted.
Ginger Kenney informed
the Meeting about a
conference on the Middle
East at Village
Presbyterian in October.
The sense of the Meeting
was that we’re willing to
contribute $100 from the
Vanguard Grant, but there
is no sense that we are
willing to co-sponsor, or to
be acknowledged in the
program as a donor. The
undecided issues are
referred to Ministry and
Oversight for further
discussion, and will be
covered at Meeting for
Worship with Attention to
Business next month. The
Meeting commends the
long, hard work of the
Kenneys on this issue.
The librarian read the
yearly library report for
Iowa Yearly Meeting. Penn
Valley Meeting is still
looking for volunteers for
Iowa Yearly Meeting
positions.
