Meeting for Worship With Attention to Business
Twelfth Month, Third Day

Vera Elleson, Clerk and Marj Swomley, Recording Clerk. . .14 members and attenders were present.

Treasurer's Report. . . Actual income for 2000: $9,320; Expenses for 2000: $10,710. Of the carry over from 1999, $2,842, there is $1,452 in our checking account. There is $814 available in VOPS interest. Ministry & Oversight. . . some suggestions to possibly ease the transition to a new clerk and largely new M&0 committee: Limit membership on M&0 to three years with staggered terms; make it possible for any future clerks to attend the clerking workshop at Pendle Hill; create a time and opportunity for the Meeting to discuss who it is and what the members and attenders want for it; consider how people who are new to Penn Valley learn about the workings of the Meeting. Peace & Social Concerns . . . The meeting, expressing strong appreciation for the work of this committee which had met several times to compose a minute concerning the UN sanctions against Iraq, approved that this minute be sent to AFSC to be included in its work and donated $300 from the VOPS fund for the Campaign of Conscience. The text of the minute will appear in next month's newsletter in its entirety. The First Day School and Program committees had also met, and their reports were received with gratitude. Nominating Committee . . . The slate for committees and responsibilities for the coming year was presented and approved. The meeting expressed appreciation to Brenda Funk for the thorough job she has done as clerk of this committee. In her report, Brenda thanked those long serving individuals who are leaving posts this year, including Vera Elleson as clerk, Kent Luetke-Stahlman as treasurer, Reva Griffith and Sheila Shinn from the M&0 committee. They will be genuinely missed. Other Business . . . the meeting would welcome a program by Ken Hinshaw on Scattergood Friends School. The meeting dealt with financial requests and reminded Friends that traditional guidelines ask that individuals bring requests for monetary assistance to the meeting prior to the event. Ministry & Oversight will deal with this matter.
