Notes of Interest - 1977-1994 by Reva Griffith
June, 1977 - The Virginia Oldham Peace and Service Fund was established. In preparation for a fund raising effort to begin the
fund, a small booklet entitled Virginia Oldham, Diligence in Love was published. An interest bearing account was e
stablished. Interest from the account was stipulated for use for a cause Virginia would support. As of January, 2000, the
principal for this fund stood at $10,750. A number of crises have benefited from the interest from this fund.
October, 1982 - An AFSC program office of the then North Central Region was opened in the meetinghouse. Penn Valley
Meeting furnishes the office and utilities (except for telephone long distance calls) to the AFSC at no cost as a contribution
to its work. Since its opening, Penn Valley Meeting members have often served on the Program Committee and participated
in its work in other ways. The AFSC has become a peace and justice voice for the Kansas City community.
July, 1987 - Ann Clendenin and Lydia Moore request marriage under the care of Penn Valley Meeting.
August, 1987 - Penn Valley Meeting drafted a minute on marriage saying that marriage by the meeting for all Friends would
be accomplished through the outlined procedure.
October, 1987 - Ann and Lydia were married under the care of the meeting.
August, 1994 - The meeting held a memorial service for Lydia Moore, member of Penn Valley Meeting and spouse of
Ann Clendenin, at Unity on the Plaza. Lydia was killed in an automobile accident and Ann injured. The community responded to
this untimely death of a much loved physician and friend. Over 1100 persons attended the service.
