House Upkeep Report - November 2005
A lot of progress
has
been made
around the
Meeting
House, thanks
to the efforts
of members
of the House
Upkeep Committee.
But a
lot of work
remains to be
done. A call
for volunteers
and a work day has been proposed.
The rock wall is primarily finished,
thanks to the efforts of
Grant and Marc. The drainage
problem on the north side of the
garage was addressed by the
placement of several large,
heavy concrete steps that Jim
scavenged from the neighbor.
Marc helped in that endeavor,
too, and the two of them regraded
the slope to help divert
water away from the garage.
Meanwhile, Marianne has been
plugging zoysia grass in those
places in the back yard that were
left bare in the wake of the ice
storm last winter. That storm
precipitated
all of
this work,
and more
still to
come.
Volunteers
are needed
for these
tasks:
- Paint the
outside of
the three
east windows upstairs.
- Repair and/or replace the
storm windows broken by the
ice storm.
- Clean the gutters on the east
side.
- Repair and repaint the trim
torn loose by the ice storm.
Jim says, “Now would be a great
time to volunteer while everyone
is watching.”
Jim also shared some sobering
news about Brenda, who has
worked for years keeping the
Meeting House crisp, clean and
orderly. After the end of the
year, Brenda will step down
from the Upkeep Committee.
“Brenda has recognized
she really needs
to take a break from
spoiling us so completely
with keeping
the house immaculate
and tastefully maintained,”
Jim relates.
“We need to find at
least two or three people
who may feel led
to pick up the slack. It
will clearly take that
many.”
In other areas of the
House, Grant located
replacement panels for
the bathroom ceiling.
That work is in progress.
And Elijah is
working to keep the
upstairs ceiling from
falling down. With all
of that work going on
overhead, you could
say that things are
looking up around the
Meeting House.
