A NEW IRAQ MINUTE
As a matter of urgency under current circumstances, we ask that the United States government and its allies work to create a safe environment for non-governmental organizations to operate in Iraq. In the aftermath of war, we must act decisively to relieve the suffering that has resulted from years of dictatorial rule, economic sanctions and war.
We are concerned that our government is embarking on a dangerous course of unilateralism. We ask that the United States and its allies pursue the objective of global participation and cooperation.
We encourage the free and open debate of all perspectives on governmental policy and agendas, whether we are at war or peace. We believe this debate is vital, and that any effort to suppress it is unpatriotic. The freedom to openly disagree, without intimidation or threat, is one of the cornerstones of our republic.
We reaffirm out belief that war is wrong, and that it perpetuates itself. "There are nonviolent ways to solve conflict. It is possible to live and prosper on this earth in ways that take away the occasion of war. Love is the most powerful force on earth. |
