First Day ProgramsReports on After Meeting Programs
Game Nights at the Meeting HouseAugust 25September 15 October 13 November 3 December 1 Friends Bible StudyEvery Sunday, 9 am in the Meeting House LibraryWith their focus on peace, love, and simplicity, Jesus’ teachings in the Gospel of Matthew, chapters 5 through 7 (the “Sermon on the Mount”), hold the foundation of many Quaker testimonies and beliefs. At times challenging, at times comforting, these teachings have the power to change our lives and our world. Everyone interested in how Jesus’ teachings apply to our daily lives and our Quaker values is encouraged to come to Friendly Bible Study. We will meet every First Day at 9 a.m., in the library. Using the Friendly Bible Study method developed for Quakers by Joanne and Larry Spears, we will be focusing this year on the Sermon on the Mount. Friendly Bible Study was created by the Spears to embody the Quaker values of personal insight and group interaction into a Bible study. Each Friend contemplates the following questions and shares their responses with the rest of the group: What is the author's main point? What new light do I find in the passage? Is this passage true to my experience? What are the implications of this passage for my life? What problems do I have with this passage? We will have Bibles and notebooks for you to use. Everyone is welcome.
